How do I get a Library
For those age 18 years and over, bring
your valid Michigan driver’s license with current Novi address
or picture identification AND official documentation showing
your name and Novi address, such as a current (within 3 months) lease, gas or
electric bill, or current property tax bill to the Library for your
For those under age18, a parent or guardian (guardianship
papers required) must bring above documentation to the Library.
Parents who sign the child’s card will have access to account
information and are responsible for materials.
If you work or own a business in the City of Novi, you may
also be eligible for a Novi Public Library Card. Please read the

Where can I use my Library
If your home library is a Library Network
(does not share the patron database system), you will need to
register your home library card with the Novi Library the first
time you use it here. Bring your home library card and photo ID
showing your current address to register . Patrons under the age
of 18 need to have a parent present to register their card.

Frequently asked questions about checking out Library
What do I need to
know about borrowing movies and games?
and games are available for home use only. To borrow a movie or
game, you need to have a library card from a TLN library and it
must be registered in our system. Watch your
due dates as these items have shorter loan periods and late fees
are $1 per day.
Please be aware of the following issues regarding our movie
and game collections:
- Library staff check movies and games for damage when
they are returned. If you have a problem with a movie or
game you have borrowed, please notify the library staff
immediately. Do not attempt to repair the item yourself.
- The patron assumes responsibility for movies and games
in their possession. The Library is not responsible for any
damage that may occur to patron's DVD/Blu-ray/Media (etc) players while
using the Library's materials.
- Overdue notices are sent after 7 days. You will be sent
a bill for a replacement if it is overdue 28 or more days.
- You may return movies and games in the library drop box.
What if the book I want
is checked out?
You can get on the waiting list
for the book, so when the book is returned, we will hold it for
you and notify you that the hold is available.. To place a request for a book, you
can use our Web Catalog and the "Place Hold" button for the book
you want. You will need a valid Library card and pin. Or you can contact
us, and a librarian will be happy to assist you. If you send
another person to pick up the item, that person must bring the
Library Card, in the name of person who has the hold available,
in order to check out the item.
What if the book I want is
not owned by the Novi Library, but is owned by another library?
You may request that a library that owns the book, and is
willing to lend it, send it to the Novi Library for you. When
the book arrives at Novi, we will notify you by email, phone or
mail. To place a request for a book, you can use our Web Catalog
and the "Place Hold" button for the book you want. You will need
a valid Library card and pin. Or, you may call us or stop by the
Information Desk, and a librarian will be happy to assist you.
Keep in mind that not all materials can be interloaned from
other libraries. If you have questions, feel free to contact us.

What if I can't find the
book I want in the Catalog?
We might be able to
get the book from another library outside our local Catalog
