Participate with Novi Community School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Matthews in a parent book club. Read books that challenge, inspire, and help us as we work with our children and the students in our district. Engage with each other in meaningful conversations about the challenges of raising successful children and building successful schools. Open to 35 participants. At registration, a copy of the current book will be provided. Registration is required for each book discussion and can be done through the Library’s first floor Information Desk.

MLK Day: The Power of Unity Breakfast,  Celebration & Essay Contest

Let's celebrate unity! Join us for a delicious hot breakfast, music from area schools, spoken word, and fellowship. Youth, teens, and adults may submit a poem or essay, 100 words or less, on "The Power of Unity". Winners will be selected from each age category, announced at the breakfast, and allowed to read their submission. Finalists will receive a unity certificate of recognition. Children will make unity cookies, bracelets, and other crafts. Email essays and poems to Gail Anderson between December 26th-January 8th. Include name, grade, school, and contact information. Children must provide parent or guardian contact information. Children may also make unity cookies, friendship bracelets and other crafts in the Activities Room.

Enjoy the talent of Aaron BraveSoul Parrott, former America’s Got Talent contestant, and musician in his own right. Come prepared to clap and move to the soulful sounds of the steel pan. Enjoy calypso, Caribbean Soca, jazz, and more. Bring the kids to test their steel pan talent. Also, join us for Jackie Davidson, an original member of the New Christy Minstrels, along with Gary Brandt, folksinger and composer. “Singing the Good Old Songs” is a combination of classic and original folk music from the “Folk Movement” of the 1960’s and 1970’s, by artists such as Peter, Paul, and Mary. Full of humor, and audience interaction, with “Sing-a- Long Folk Song Medley.” Both are lots of fun for the whole family!

The Harp/Flute Duet have performed in such venues as the Max Fisher Orchestra Hall, Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and more. Their dynamic classical concerts include masterworks of the past as well as contemporary composition. The DSO Strings Trio have performed in concerts around the world. From the Shanghai Conservatory, Kennedy Center, Syracuse Symphony, and much more.
