TEEN SPACE

The Novi Public Library has partnered with the City of Novi Parks & Recreation Department, Novi Community School District, and Novi Youth Assistance to offer a Teen Space in the West Side Meeting Room of the Library on Mondays- Fridays 2-5 pm (except over vacation breaks) during the school year. The Teen Space was created for students to “hang out” and socialize when traditional use of the library is not needed, and is open to students in grades 7-12.

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD

Join the TAB as we create and plan programs for teens at the Library. Meeting attendance will count as volunteer time.  Click here for more information on the Teen Advisory Board.

MLK Day: The Power of Unity Breakfast,  Celebration & Essay Contest

Let's celebrate unity! Join us for a delicious hot breakfast, music from area schools, spoken word, and fellowship. Youth, teens, and adults may submit a poem or essay, 100 words or less, on "The Power of Unity". Winners will be selected from each age category, announced at the breakfast, and allowed to read their submission. Finalists will receive a unity certificate of recognition. Children will make unity cookies, bracelets, and other crafts. Email essays and poems to Gail Anderson between December 26th-January 8th. Include name, grade, school, and contact information. Children must provide parent or guardian contact information. Children may also make unity cookies, friendship bracelets and other crafts in the Activities Room.

Self-Defense Workshop

Tuesday, 6:30-8pm

This class focuses on keeping kids safe with demonstration and explanation of self-defense techniques. Every child will learn basic self-defenses skills to protect themselves in real life situations. We will be covering basic awareness in lecture form, learning to listen to your instincts “gut feeling,”, handson safety techniques, how to become “bully proof,” and how to protect yourself and others and be your own superhero!

Battle of the Books

Come and enjoy this great event designed to promote the sport of reading! Students read from a list of six books and then participate in a contest where each team answers questions about those books as a team. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place teams. Applications are available Monday, November 28th, 2016 on the Library’s website (novilibrary.org).
