The Novi Public Library is now open Mon-Thu, 10am-9pm, Fri & Sat, 10am-6pm and Sun, 12-6pm for visits 60 minutes or less.

  • If you are sick, please DO NOT enter the Library.
  • Masks are required (Executive Order 2020-153).
  • Guests are asked to visit for 60 minutes or less.
  • Small groups of no more than 1-2 people strongly encouraged.
  • Members not of the same household must remain 6 ft. apart.
  • Copying, scanning, and printing services available. Public computer usage available for 1 hour.
  • Priority seating will be reserved for seniors or guests with disabilities or mobility issues.
  • Materials returned will be quarantined for 5 days (CDC).
  • Enclosed spaces such as meeting and study rooms are not available.
  • Book Nook and Library Café are OPEN!.
Material Donations:
Due to an overwhelming response and very limited volunteer resources, we have to limit accepting donations to the 2nd/4th Thursday of the month, 10am-7pm (weather permitting).

Call the Administration Office at 248-869-7204 with questions.
 
  • Drop off donations at the back of the Library, NOT at the front doors (go to entry off of Taft Rd. by Novi High School). Click here to view a map of where donations are accepted.
  • Place “recent” items in “great” condition in the large black donation bin near the library staff entrance.
  • DO NOT DONATE: old/moldy/wet materials, magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassette tapes and Reader’s Digests.
  • Items donated will be quarantined for 72 hours. Donations can become part of the Library’s collection and/or the Friends Book Nook, Thrift Books, Recycling or Discarded.

NPL will continue to monitor and follow guidance from the Oakland County Health Department, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Reopening Phases

Below is a snap-shot of what will be offered at NPL, based on the information we receive daily from the State of Michigan. Currently, we are in the "grab and go phase," but as more information and guidelines are released about public libraries in Michigan, we will begin to engage our community more. New policies and procedures have been approved by the Library Board to ensure safety and proper usage of our building. Details related to phases are subject to change.

Phase 4 GRAB & GO SERVICES (60 min. or less)
Mon-Thu, 10am-9pm
Fri-Sat, 10am-6pm
Sun, 12-6pm
Building Access Wearing masks will be required (based on Executive Order 2020-153). The building will be open to the public regular hours of operation.
In-Library Services Guests will be asked to visit the Library quickly and efficiently (60 minutes or less) to find and check out materials and get help. Copying, scanning and printing services are available. Social distancing of 6 ft. and all safety guidelines will be followed. Please DO NOT visit in groups. Based on Executive Order 2020-97, the Library building capacity cannot exceed 120 people at one time (25% of occupancy).
Public Computers & Printing Public computers are available for 1 hour time limit on both the first and second floor.
Programs All programs are virtual through December, on novilibrary.org.

Drive-Up Window & Lockers Call ahead (248-869-7202 or 248-869-7203) to schedule a pickup time for holds during regular hours of operation. Only holds available and ready for pickup at Novi Public Library will be eligible for appointment. You will receive a notification when a hold is available for pickup.
Library Café Grab-and-go café services available Mon-Thu, 7am-7pm and Fri, 7am-5pm and Sat, 10am-5pm. Sunday hours suspended temporarily. Proudly serving Starbucks!
Donations Donations of materials will be accepted ONLY on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 10am-7pm (weather permitting). See above for details. Items will be quarantined for 72 hours. Call the Administration Office at 248-869-7204 with questions.
Book Nook The Book Nook is open Mon-Thu, 10am-9pm, Fri-Sat, 10am-6pm and Sun, 12-6pm, but will not be staffed by a Friends Volunteer. Please use the existing Book Nook “hold” process if you would like a book in the glass case and a Friends Volunteer will contact you within one week. Use the Honor box for payment. Donations of materials will be accepted ONLY on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10am-7pm (weather permitting). Items will be quarantined for 72 hours.
Cleaning Daily cleaning and disinfecting of all high touch areas will be conducted.

PROGRAMMING AND CLASSES

What do I do with my library materials?

Should I follow the due dates listed on my items?
Yes. Starting July 6, we began charging overdue fines. The Novi Library will NOT be charging overdue fines for materials during the time period the Library was closed to the public (March 16 – July 5).

Can I place items on hold by calling the Library?
Yes. Call ahead (248-869-7202 or 248-869-7203) to schedule a pickup time for holds. Appointment times are available Mon – Sat, 10am – 5pm and Sun, 12pm – 5pm. A valid, active library card is required for hold and item pickups. Appointments can be made up to 2 days in advance, based on availability. Appointments must be made at least 1 hour prior to scheduled pickup time. Only holds available and ready for pickup at Novi Public Library will be eligible for appointment. You will receive a notification when a hold is available for pickup.

Can I place items on hold by using the online catalog?
Yes.

How long will I have to pick up my holds?
Once notified of an available hold, guests will have 7 days to pick them up at Novi Public Library. Please follow the “hold through” dates listed on your My Account and on your hold notification.
 
I want to access the online catalog or use digital resources but my library card is not working. What do I do?

Can I renew my library card by phone?

Are computers/printing or copy/scanning services available?
Copying, scanning and printing services are available. Public computers are available for a 1 hour limit on both the first and second floor.

Is 3D printing in the iCube available?
Yes, 3D printing in the iCube is available by appointment only. Complete the 3D printing request form and submit it along with your .stl file to email.
 
Can I volunteer at the Library?
Teens (ages 14-17) interested in earning volunteer hours for participation in our virtual TAB meetings, must follow the application process on the Teen Volunteer Program page and complete the Teen Volunteer Information Packet.

In-person volunteer services have been suspended until the Library is in Phase 6 of its reopening plan.  

 
Will the Library be doing outreach?
No. The Library has suspended outreach services through Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
 
What types of digital services are available?
We have e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming. These can be accessed through Overdrive, Libby, RBDigital, and Hoopla. Call 248-869-7202 or 248-869-7203 or email asknovi@novilibrary.org to find out how.
 
How do I access NPL's digital services?

What types of online homework resources does NPL have available?

Do you have any recommendations on what to read?
