The Novi Public Library is in Phase 4 of its reopening plan. The Library will be open Monday-Thursday, 10am-9pm, Friday and Saturday, 10am-6pm and Sunday, 12-6pm for visits 60 minutes or less. Drive-up/locker services by appointment will also be available.

  • If you are sick, please DO NOT enter the Library.
  • Masks required (MDHHS Public Health Code).
  • Guests are asked to visit for 60 minutes or less. Timers may be used.
  • Small groups of no more than 1-2 people are strongly encouraged.
  • Members not of the same household must remain 6 ft. apart.
  • Copying, scanning, and printing services available. Public computer usage available for 1 hour.
  • Priority seating will be reserved for seniors or guests with disabilities or mobility issues.
  • Returned materials are currently being quarantined for 5 days. Please allow up to 1 week for material to be removed from your account.
  • Enclosed spaces such as meeting and study rooms are not available.
  • Book Nook and Library Café (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) are OPEN!.

Material Donations:
Due to an overwhelming response and very limited volunteer resources, we have to limit accepting donations to the 2nd/4th Thursday of the month, 10am-7pm (weather permitting).
Call the Administration Office at 248-869-7204 with questions.

  • Drop off donations at the back of the Library, NOT at the front doors (go to entry off of Taft Rd. by Novi High School). Click here to view a map of where donations are accepted.
  • Place “recent” items in “great” condition in the large black donation bin near the library staff entrance.
  • DO NOT DONATE: old/moldy/wet materials, magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassette tapes and Reader’s Digests.
  • Items donated will be quarantined for 72 hours. Donations can become part of the Library’s collection and/or the Friends Book Nook, Thrift Books, Recycling or Discarded.

NPL will continue to monitor and follow guidance from the Oakland County Health Department, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Reopening Phase

Below is a snap-shot of what will be offered and when, based on the information we receive daily from the State of Michigan. Currently, we are in the "grab-and-go phase," but as more information and guidelines are released about public libraries in Michigan, we will begin to engage our community more. New policies and procedures have been approved by the Library Board to ensure safety and proper usage of our building. Details related to phases are subject to change.

Building Access Wearing masks will be required (based on MDHHS 2253 Public Health Code). The building will be open to the public regular hours of operation.
In-Library Services Guests will be asked to visit the Library quickly and efficiently (60 minutes or less) to find and check out materials and get help. Copying, scanning and printing services are available. Social distancing of 6 ft. and all safety guidelines will be followed. Please DO NOT visit in groups.
Public Computers & Printing / Scanning / Copying Public computers are available for 1 hour time limit on both the first and second floor. Printing, scanning and copying services are available.
Programs All programs are virtual on novilibrary.org.

Please use the existing Book Nook “hold” process if you would like a book in the glass case and a Friends Volunteer will contact you within one week. Use the Honor box for payment. Donations of materials will be accepted ONLY on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10am-7pm (weather permitting).
Cleaning Daily cleaning and disinfecting of all high touch areas will be conducted.

Is the Library open?

Will my items be automatically renewed?

Yes. Items will auto-renewal if:

  • The item does not have holds
  • The item has not reached its limit of 2 renewals
  • Your account does not have blocks preventing renewals
  • It is an item that is eligible for renewals
  • Frequently Asked Questions
    • When do auto-renewals occur?
      Auto-renewals will occur 3 days before an item's due date. You will still receive your full loan period, as the renewal period is added at the end of the original loan.
    • Will I get a notification if an item has auto-renewed?
      No, you will not receive a notification of the successful auto-renewal of items; items that can be renewed will be renewed with no notification. However, if you have opted in to receive checkout and renewal receipts via email, then you will be sent an email renewal receipt when items are auto-renewed.
    • I already returned my item. Why did the item auto-renew?
      If you already returned the item, it is currently in quarantine for 5 days but still on your account, and that is why it automatically renewed. Please allow one (1) week for the item to come off of your account as it goes through our quarantine procedure.
    • What if an item doesn't auto-renew?
      If an item cannot be renewed, you will receive a due date reminder by your chosen notification method (email, text or phone). Please return items by the due date so that other library patrons can enjoy them and to avoid accruing late fees.
Is Novi Public Library receiving materials from other TLN (The Library Network) or MeLCat libraries?

Can I place items on hold by calling the Library?
Yes. Call ahead (248-349-0720) to schedule a pickup time for holds. Appointment times are available Mon-Thu, 10am-8pm, Fri & Sat, 10am-5pm and Sun, 12-5pm. A valid, active library card is required for hold and item pickups. Appointments can be made up to 2 days in advance, based on availability. Can I place items on hold by using the online catalog?
Yes.

How long will I have to pick up my holds?
Once notified of an available hold, guests will have 7 days to pick them up at Novi Public Library. Please follow the “hold through” dates listed on your My Account and on your hold notification.

Can I renew my library card by phone?

Is the iCube open?
Yes, the iCube is open for 1 hour visits by appointment only. You must fill out our form to schedule an appointment. Click here to access the form.

Is 3D printing in the iCube available?
Yes. 3D printing in the iCube is available by appointment only. Complete the 3D printing request form and submit it along with your .stl file to email.
 
Can I volunteer at the Library?
Yes, virtually only. Teens (ages 14-17) interested in earning volunteer hours for participation in our virtual TAB meetings, must follow the application process on the Teen Volunteer Program page and complete the Teen Volunteer Information Packet. Contact our Teen Librarian Lindsay at email.
 
In-person volunteer services have been suspended until the Library is in Phase 6 of its reopening plan.
 
Will the Library be doing outreach?
No. The Library has suspended outreach services until further notice.
 
What types of digital services are available?
We have e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming. These can be accessed through Overdrive, Libby, RBDigital, and Hoopla. Call 248-349-0720 or email asknovi@novilibrary.org to find out how.
 
How do I access NPL's digital services?
